Abstract: Discusses the passage of the General Convention of Friendship, Reciprocal Establishments, Commerce, and for the Surrender of Fugitive Criminals treaty between Switzerland and the United States in 1850. Addresses the conditions supporting the treaty and causes for the delay in ratification until 1855, including American concerns over Swiss anti-Semitism and restrictions on admitting Jewish American traders to Switzerland.
